Orthodontics involve one of the following systems:

3rd Party Treatments

Over 200 different 3rd party treatments are available. These systems are basically planned in accordance with a laboratory. They are simpler systems and must require support as they are being computer simulated, by an orthodontist in a different location. Famous examples include: Invisalign, Six Month Smiles, ClearPath etc.

Clear Aligners at Cephtactics

  • Advantages:
    • Usually more aesthetic.
    • More patient friendly – allows patient to control the treatment to some degree.
  • Disadvantages:
    • More expensive as a 3rd party needs to be paid.
    • Root movements are reduced. 
    • Finishing can be longer, and cost more.
    • Complicated cases are contraindicated.

Metal Conventional Braces

These are by far the most effective brace system in the world. They are used by majority of clinicians in the world, majority of social healthcare systems in the world and they are used by majority of training establishments such as universities and colleges.

  • Advantages:
    • Usually more efficient, quicker, less staining.
    • Cheaper than other versions.
    • Best appliance for children.
    • Movements are predictable.
  • Disadvantages:
    • Aesthetically inferior.

Ceramic Aesthetic Braces

Ceramic braces can be either mono or polycrystalline in nature. The monocrystalline braces are extremely clear, while the polycrystalline increase strength. The systems being advised include Ormco ICE, American Orthodontics Radiance, Forestadent Glam.

  • Advantages:
    • Aesthetic braces.
    • Relatively quick.
  • Disadvantages:
    • Slightly slower than the metal braces.
    • Avoidance of curries, red wines and tobacco needed.
    • Somewhat more expensive than the metal brace.

Lingual Invisible treatments

Lingual treatments require the best of the orthodontic calibre. There are several simple systems including WIN, Incognito, 2D, StB etc.

  • Advantages:
    • Most aesthetic.
  • Disadvantages:
    • More expensive than other systems.
    • Slower treatments with lingual being more than 2 yrs.
    • Finishing can be longer, and cost more.
    • Complicated cases are not advised in this case.
